Gary Drayton and Charles Barkhouse discover a leaf broach on "The Curse of Oak Island."
On "The Curse of Oak Island" episode which aired Tuesday, November 26th, the treasure hunting team may have discovered the flood tunnel to the money pit after drilling. If so, the team would possibly be able to shut off the flooding, locate the money pit, and excavate.
Treasure hunters discovered the money pit in 1795. Searchers were stopped from excavating further because the money pit is booby-trapped from flooding tunnels.
The modern-day treasure hunters found the wood from the possible tunnel with undisturbed earth on the surface. They drilled further down and didn't discover more wood but the possible tunnel could be at an angle underground. A C-14 analysis was conducted on the wood from the possible tunnel. The wood dates from 60 years before the money pit.
In 1746, the French military arrived on the island by ship. The ship's log described a deep pit like the money pit and a great deal of treasure, which may have funded the American Revolution.
Also, in the episode, Charles Barkhouse and Gary Drayton found a leaf broach.
Metal detector expert Gary Drayton previously discovered a 700-year-old broach on Oak Island. You can see a photo of it at this link:
