Kristi Yamaguchi's "Break a Leg" Tweet to Nancy Kerrigan in good fun
So excited for you @NancyAKerrigan ! Can't wait to see you grace that ballroom floor, break a leg! 💃🏻#DWTS— Kristi Yamaguchi (@kristiyamaguchi) March 20, 2017
Kristi Yamaguchi's March 20 tweet to Nancy Kerrigan to break a leg on "Dancing with the Stars" was in good fun. Olympic figure skater Yamaguchi even created a special sign to cheer on her longtime friend. She recently posted a photo to Instagram of her and fellow Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan holding up the sign.
According to the New York Daily News, Kerrigan was attacked in January 1994. She was hit on the knee at a Detroit ice rink. Her knee cap was shattered. An assailant hit her with a police baton.
Kerrigan famously wailed "Why me?" after the assault.
Kerrigan's rival Tonya Harting is said to have planned the attack. Jeff Gilloly (Harding's then husband) served time for the attack, as did Shawn Eckhardt (Harding's bodyguard,) Shane Stant,
and friend Derrick Smith.
I feel like the figure skaters or a publicist could have planned out the "break a leg" tweet to arouse sympathy from the "Dancing with the Stars" judges. Regardless drumming up sympathy wouldn't be difficult.
