LA Clippers' Owner Banned for Life From NBA
LA Clipper's Owner, Donald Sterling faces the consequences after accusations he made racist remarks. The NBA banned Sterling for life. The NBA commissioner spoke out during a press conference this afternoon.
The NBA probed alleged recordings by the Clipper's owner. "The central findings of the investigation
are that the man whose voice is heard on the recording and on a second recording from the same conversation released on Sunday is Mr. Sterling and that the hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling."
Accordingly, effective immediately I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clipper's organization or the NBA," said NBA Commissioner, Mr. Silver.
According to the AP, he said Sterling will be fined $2.5 million, which will be used for anti-racism efforts. Further, the NBA commissioner said the LA Clipper's owner could be forced to sell the team. A 3/4 vote from NBA owners could force Sterling to part with the team.
A correspondent questioned why wasn't action taken before this incident when there were previous claims of racism? The league's commissioner answered, actions were taken once there was evidence of racism.
A woman from a Harlem media organization questioned whether they would diversify ownership. The commissioner answered there is a diverse group of NBA owners.
The league said the racist comments are in audio recordings. The recordings feature a conversation between the Clipper's owner and V. Stiviano.
