Shirley Temple dies at 85. She is considered one of the most famous child stars in the world. According to the AP, she passed away with family members by her side in California.

The child star captured the hearts of Americans with performances well beyond her years. Temple was known for her sing and dance numbers. Her personality, cute looks, trademark curls, and adorable clothes drew in audiences. Shirley was a welcome distraction from  the Depression.

She attracted the most movie viewers in 1935 when she was seven. She retired from films at 21. She entered politics from there.
