Second Part of Lance Armstrong Interview
The second half of Oprah's Lance Armstrong interview is broadcast Friday evening. The interview was filmed in Armstrong's Texas home. OWN decided to air the interview in two shows for curious viewers to be able to see more of Lance's story.
Armstrong sponsors started dropping out during his doping scandal. Armstrong said he never thought Livestrong would drop him.
Livestrong began when Lance Armstrong began to battle cancer. The foundation raised $500 million for cancer awareness. In November Armstrong stepped aside from Livestrong.
The promotions company who paid him $12 million wants the money returned. According to the Associated Press, the win bonuses were for winning the 5th, 6th, and 7th Tour de France titles. They said they will sue if the money is not returned.
Armstrong spoke about his former self "that guy thought he was invincible."
Oprah asked, do you owe David Walsh and apology? He has covered this story tirelessly.
Armstrong answered, "yes I owe David Walsh an apology."
Armstrong said he wants to compete again- not in the Tour de France- not in any sanctioned races.
"I deserve to be punished."
Oprah referred to the cyclist as cocky, arrogant, and a jerk through the beginning of a question, where you being your cocky, arrogant, jerk self?
Armstrong said he is going to therapy. "I've had a messy life. It's no excuse."
"Everyone who gets caught is bummed out they got caught."
Armstrong said his son defended him. Armstrong told his son not to defend him anymore. He admitted to his son he was blood doping. The star's son inspired him to go through with the Oprah interview.
Have you lost everything? I've lost all future income. When all the sponsors left that was probably a $75 million day.
I don't like to look back. We look forward.
Oprah "When you're famous people love to see the heroic rise and the stumble and the fall.
Will you rise again?"
I don't know. I could apologize a thousand times and it wouldn't be enough.
Are you a better person now because of this?
"Yes."
Cheating, bullying people, these are the things you are not supposed to do. We teach our children that. The ultimate betrayal is to the people who trusted me and supported me.
