Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan respond after Harvey Weinstein turns himself in
Actress Ashley Judd and actress Rose McGowan recently respond on Instagram after Harvey Weinstein turns himself in Friday on sex crime charges. Ashley Judd shared a statement with the social media site on Saturday, May 26.
Judd wrote in part, "That Harvey Weinstein, a powerful man who thrived and flourished as he shattered and abused women in a culture of impunity was arrested and charged is resoundingly significant."
She continued, "It is a watershed event, an irreversible pivot from tacit and explicit license to exploit to a ground of firmer boundaries and clarity about unacceptable behavior no longer being tolerated. These images of Harvey in handcuffs are possible because of the voices, backbone, determination demonstrated by survivors, and the journalists who reported our stories, in spite of the unknown and retaliation. #harveyweinstein #metoo @timesupnow"
According to "The New York Times," Ashley Judd sued Harvey Weinstein, claiming he harmed her career.
Rose McGowan shared a statement on Instagram. She wrote, "I, and so many of Harvey Weinstein's survivors, had given up hope that our rapist would be held accountable by law. Twenty years ago, I swore that I would right this wrong. Today, we are one step closer to justice. We were young women who were assaulted by Weinstein and later terrorized by his vast network of complicity. I stand with my fellow survivors. May his arrest give hope to all victims and survivors everywhere that are telling their truths."
